Spain recommends Spaniards temporarily leave Ukraine

Spain recommended its citizens to temporarily leave Ukraine as soon as possible, given the worsening security conditions, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday, Jose Manuel Albares.

“We recommend temporarily leaving the country as soon as possible and we advise against traveling to Ukraine under any circumstances,” Albares told a parliamentary committee.

Russia’s Monday recognition of Donetsk and the neighboring self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic was declared illegal by Western countries, which have imposed new sanctions against Moscow.

Albares said that 334 Spaniards remain in Ukrainecompared to 445 when the crisis began a few weeks ago.
