Spain again imposes the mandatory use of face masks outdoors

Spain once again imposed the mandatory use of face masks outdoors, in order to contain the advance of Covid-19, which reached a record of about 50,000 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to a government announcement on Wednesday.

“The mandatory use of masks outdoors is established,” underlined a government statement, without specifying when the measure will come into effect.

However, on Thursday an extraordinary Council of Ministers was convened to approve the decree law, so that wearing masks outdoors will be effective for Christmas, which always results in large concentrations.

The text was released at a time when an extraordinary meeting was being held between the president of the government, Pedro Sanchez, and the leaders of the country’s autonomous communities to discuss measures against the spread of the omicron variant.

Spain, one of the world leaders in vaccination, set a national record of 49,823 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours and the Omicron variant, more contagious, already represents almost half of the new cases, according to the Ministry of Health.
