The person in question, a resident of the area, had been missing since Friday afternoon.

“The man left on a snowmobile and was not seen again by his loved ones. Following an alert, a search was undertaken involving Sûreté du Québec officers on snowmobiles,” said police spokesperson Sgt. Stéphane Tremblay.

While the search was underway, another snowmobile driver discovered the man’s body off-trail, where the victim had clearly been in an accident.

“Around 9 pm on Saturday, the snowmobiler, age 35, was found unconscious by another driver in the Hope sector, but not on an official trail,” Tremblay said.

“According to our initial information, he lost control of the snowmobile and crashed into a tree.”

Firefighters called to the scene retrieved the victim using a sled, and he was transported to a local CLSC, where he was pronounced dead.

An SQ officer specializing in collision investigations was on the scene to attempt to determine the causes and circumstances of the fatal accident.
