The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Walmart location at 3090 Dougall Ave. on Feb. 26 around 3 pm

SIU has released no further details about what occurred, except that an investigation is taking place.

Witnesses to the interaction are asked to submit information via the SIU website (siu.on.ca), using the “Appeal for Witnesses” option under the “Contact Us” menu.

The case number that should be mentioned is 22-OCI-058.

The online form requires an email address, but your name is optional.

The website also allows submission of a video or image file.

The SIU is an independent non-police organization empowered by the Special Investigations Unit Act to investigate occurrences across Ontario involving municipal, regional, or provincial police officers.

The organization and its legislation are meant to “strengthen civilian oversight of law enforcement” and strive for greater transparency.

SIU’s director is able to call for a criminal investigation if an incident with a police officer results in death, serious injury, discharge of a firearm, or a report of sexual assault.
