Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate after an accident in southwestern Ontario killed one man and injured three others Sunday afternoon.

The police watchdog said the accident occurred just east of the town of Durham in Gray County after a West Gray police officer initiated a traffic stop around 1:30 p.m. and the driver fled. .

The officer tried to stop near the town of Priceville and after the vehicle fled, the SIU said it was involved in an accident with another vehicle on Gray County Road 3 near Concession Road 2.

The man in the vehicle who was run over died at the scene, while two passengers in the vehicle were seriously injured.

The driver of the fleeing vehicle was also seriously injured.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
