Advance

The entry of the MIA to Semarnat occurs one year and three months after the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, would give the flag to the works of this section, which already has a considerable progress of work with clearing of vegetation on one side of the Mérida-Cancun highway, according to the weekly reports presented by the same Fonatur.

According to the General Law of Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection (LGEEPA), the Environment impact manifestation It is a necessary requirement before the construction of the project begins, since it falls within the provisions established in the regional modality.

Even in the MIA of Section 4, section 1.1.3, it is stated verbatim: “It is foreseen that the construction works will begin once the authorizations regarding environmental impact are obtained. The duration for the execution of the works including the infrastructure and equipment tests is approximately three years ”, however, the works are already a considerable percentage of progress.

Fonatur states in the MIA that Section 4 is made up of three sub-sections: (a) Izamal railroad with a length of 9,728 kilometers until it meets federal highway 180D Kantunil-Cancún; (b) railroad plus highway 180D Kantunil-Cancún federal highway, of 214,535 kilometers, including the right of way (parallel to the axis of the median), which is currently in operation, and in which the necessary adjustments will be made so that On the north side (Cancun-Kantunil direction) there is an A4 highway in the direction of Mérida and on the south side (Kantunil-Cancun direction) the Mayan Train operates in the Cancun direction.

Finally: (c) Cancun railroad, which will end in the opening of a new section with a length of 15,275 kilometers, where it separates from Highway 180D and will end approximately at the city’s airport. Fonatur anticipates that “it will promote the regeneration of the vegetation cover through the implementation of the Soil Conservation and Reforestation Program with native species of the region to improve the functioning and integrity of the biology corridors and the connectivity of the landscape ”.
