‘Secret Story’, the failure of Zeppelin after a year without reality on Telecinco

Big stumble for Zeppelin TV with what was going to be his great reality show of 2021. After the scandal over the alleged sexual abuse of Carlota Prado in the house of ‘Big Brother Revolution’, which led to the historic leak of advertisers of ‘GH VIP 7’, Telecinco He had no choice but to park the brand that has given him so much joy over the last 20 years. Although in the summer of this year he announced the return of the reality show with celebrities, with what would be its eighth edition, finally he decided to bring to Spain an internationally successful format: ‘Secret Story: the house of secrets’.

After a year without producing any reality program for Mediaset, Zeppelin took control of this new contest with the aim of quenching the thirst for spaces that show life live. The company had the opportunity, using the base from which other reality shows such as ‘Big Brother’ start, offer a new product to viewers. However, ‘Secret Story’ has turned out to be more of the same and faces its final stretch with a feeling of general disappointment among the spectators, as reflected by social networks and the galas’ own audiences.

The differentiating element of ‘Secret Story’ was the so-called ‘game of secrets’; However, this mechanic was relegated to the background from the moment the house turned on its lights. Secrets such as “I had a relationship with a Real Madrid player”, “I am a lover of a presenter”, “I did a miracle” or “my family does not know that I scam them” have run out of steam. Some have not been fully revealed and others have turned out to be anecdotes without any relevance, causing even indifference among the presenters themselves.

The casting of contestants has not rowed in favor of the work either and the leading role has fallen to only a few, this being the case of Miguel Frigenti, Cristina Porta or Lucía Pariente. In fact, the plots were so loose that the contest had to resort, with the permission of Sofía Suescun, to the queen of reality shows: Adara Miller. What was to be a visit was extended in time and ended up becoming an official contestant to liven up the atmosphere in the house, a mission that he fully accomplished.

The most delicate moment of reality came after the expulsion of the heavyweights, those contestants who, unlike most of their peers, knew what they had gone for and were in charge of generating content. In this sense, Zeppelin had to make a desperate decision and opted to bring back to the house not one, but two repeats chosen by the public: Frigenti and Adara. This succeeded in prolonging the conflicts in the house a little more, until they were expelled again.

‘Secret Story’, below 2 million

All this chain of errors, together with criticism on social networks for the alleged treatment of favor by the program to certain contestants, is reflected in the audiences that ‘Secret Story’ has garnered since the beginning of its broadcasts in September. His first gala gathered a 17.4% share with 1.5 million viewers, data that has failed to improve over the weeks, quite the contrary. In fact, in none of its installments has it managed to exceed 2 million viewers.
