Put them together and you have the story of a man in South Carolina, who died of a heart attack while he was in the middle of burying his girlfriend — who he allegedly killed.

Joseph McKinnon, 60, was found near a “freshly dug pit” where the body of 65-year-old Patricia Dent was discovered, according to a news release from the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office.

McKinnon allegedly strangled Dent to death inside a Trenton, SC home over the weekend, WHNS reported.

Deputies responded to reports of “an unresponsive male lying in his yard,” Sheriff Jody Rowland said in the statement.

When they arrived, they found McKinnon’s body.

Medical crews were called to the scene and tried to revive him but couldn’t save him.

During the investigation, deputies found the body of Dent, who lived with McKinnon.

“Mr. McKinnon then bound her and wrapped her in trash bags before putting her in the previously dug pit,” the sheriff said in the release.

“The pit was then partially filled in by Mr. McKinnon,” the statement continued. “While covering the pit, Mr. McKinnon had the cardiac event, causing his death.”

Dent’s twin sister, Pamela Briggs, told the news outlet there were no signs of the tragic events.

“I’m shocked. I didn’t see any of that coming,” Briggs said.

“This is reality and life, and a big part of me is gone, and now I’m going to have to live with that.”
