The City of Toronto is rotating the location of its 50 photo radar cameras — again.

The “automated speed enforcement devices (ASEs) have led to just over 74,600 tickets being issued in the first three months of the year on top of more than 54,000 tickets in the last three months of 2021, totaling over 129,000 tickets in the six-month period.

The Doug Ford government allowed the city to install the cameras in community safety zones.

The city is obliged under provincial law to warn drivers with signage that they are entering an area with speed cameras.

The location of photo radar units can also be found by going onto toronto.ca and searching for “speed camera map.”

The busiest photo radar device in January was located on Beverley St. north of Dundas St. W. where it issued 2,772 tickets or 13% of all ASE tickets that month.

The repeat offender of the month received 14 speeding tickets on Cathedral Bluffs Dr. south of Kingston Rd.

The Beverly St. ASE had another busy time of it in February, issuing 4,952 of the 25,666 photo radar tickets given out that month.

The leadfoot driver of the month was dinged with nine tickets for speeding on Arlington Ave. south of Durham Ave.

Ten percent of all tickets issued in March came from the photo radar on Avenue Rd. south of Caribou Rd. — 2,826 at that one ASE and 27,290 in total across the city.

Eleven tickets for speeding through the Beverley St. device in March went to one driver.

A motorist clocked doing 146 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Martin Grove Rd. in the ward of Etobicoke North was the highest excessive speed recorded by the photo radar cameras, which were first installed on July 6, 2020.

Getting a photo radar ticket won’t cost points but it does lead to large ends that include a victim fine surcharge and applicable court costs.

If recorded going more than 50 km/h over the speed limit, a motorist gets a court date.
