Saskatoon Community Association Continues to Push for Safer Streets After 9-Year-Old Death – Saskatoon | The Canadian News

Following the tragic death of 9-year-old Emily Maurice Baeleigh in Hudson-Mayfair-Kelsey Woodlawn Bay Park, the community association is pushing for safer roads.

During a Saskatoon Police Commission At Thursday’s meeting, former community association president Diane Bentley spoke on behalf of the association and presented a letter.

Her letter reads: “The recent and tragic death of Baeleigh Emily Maurice on 33rd Street has provided an opportunity to improve security measures to ensure the safe crossing of all pedestrians and bicyclists on this increasingly busy street. These measures are, of course, the responsibility of the City of Saskatoon. “

He then made suggestions on what can be done to improve traffic flow in the area.

The story continues below the ad.

While speeding and drunk driving are factors, he says signs and lights should be posted “to provide a greater sense of security for people moving from one side of the street to the other.”

“A big component of that is education. Educating both drivers and pedestrians about courtesy, respect for everyone who uses the streets, ”said Bentley.

The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) noted at the meeting that there are no further updates on the investigation of the accident in which Baeleigh Maurice died.

Bentley will also present its letter to the city of Saskatoon transportation committee next Monday.
