Saskatchewan Huskies’ Machart and Zerr Listed as CFL’s Top Prospects – Saskatoon | The Canadian News

In early September, a pair of Huskies football players did the annual fall version of the CFL Scouting Bureau’s top prospect rankings.

The list outlines the top 20 college athletes eligible for the 2022 CFL Draft.

The 18th-highest ranked Huskie, outstanding running back Adam Machart, is no stranger to being recognized for his prowess on the field of play.

In 2019, the then 22-year-old broke the show’s one-season career record with 1,331 rushing yards. That performance made him a runner-up to the Hec Crighton Trophy, awarded to the best Canadian college football player in US sports.

Although he also took home the Canada West Player of the Year title, he was named the USports All-Canadian and the Canada West First Team All-Star.

Even with all those accolades, don’t expect Machart to rest on his laurels heading into next season.

“You must keep your eyes looking straight ahead,” Machart said. “You know, at the end of the day that was two years ago. So I have to make sure I do my part, make sure I win that ranking in the future, not live in the past. “

“It seems to be even more explosive,” observed head coach Scott Flory. “(He has) a deeper understanding of the playbook and is comfortable with all of that.”

Offensive tackle Noah Zerr has cleared the way for Machart in the past two seasons.

The six-foot-seven, Langenburg, Sask. Native also made the prospect ranking list, coming in at No. 20.

However, like his teammate Machart, qualifying won’t change Zerr’s focus for next season.

“I’ve worked really hard in my time here with the Huskies,” Zerr said. “I’m happy to be on the list, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s just a little feather in my cap.

“My main goal this year is to play really good football, have a really fun time and be successful with this team.”

The dynamic shared by Zerr, the rest of the offensive line and his back, Machart, makes sharing the qualifying experience with him that much more special.

“I’m glad I was able to help him where I could,” Zerr said. “I’m glad we have that symbiotic relationship. I think that is important and it will be very important for this season. “

It’s a relationship that will only continue to grow between a couple of motivated players, both looking to build on last season’s success.

“(If) someone gives you that honor, it’s like, okay, let’s prove it, or let’s go up the ladder,” Machart explained.

“You never want to settle, or be satisfied, you always want to work. As a competitor, you always want to improve and keep improving. You’re never good enough. “
