The hospital presents ‘Més Sant Pau’, a work plan to modernize the center over the next eight years
The Hospital of Santa Creu i Sant Pau, in Barcelona, will have a high resolution emergency clinic for the elderly. It will be called QCare, it will be ready before 2025 and it will be similar to covid buildings that many hospitals built due to the pandemic. It will have approximately 5,000 meters and will cost between 12 and 14 million euros.
With this emergency clinic for the elderly, Sant Pau seeks improve benefits for its population, because one in four patients in this health center is over 65 years old. In addition, it is anticipated that in 2050 a third of the population is over 65 years of age and between 12% and 15%, more than 80. The old age is associated with chronic diseases, dependency and loneliness, hence the increase in emergencies and the need for hospital beds.
“This clinic will treat problems more characteristic of frailty, such as broken bones, which are usually frequent in older people”, said this Thursday the manager of the Hospital de Sant Pau, Adria Comella, in a meeting with the media.

This new clinic is part of the work plan ‘Mes Sant Pau’, that the hospital plans to develop between 2025 and 2030 and with which it foresees improve infrastructure and modernize information and technology systems.
As has Comella, The work plan also contemplates the creation of the Health Campus Barcelona, a project that will respond to assistance, research, teaching, innovation and humanism.

The Sant Pau Hospital is the oldest hospital in Barcelona and one of the oldest in Catalonia and Spain. It began to function at 1401, on Carrer del Hospital in what is now the Raval neighbourhood.
