A food distribution bank in St. Thomas, Ontario, has found a new and bigger home.

the Harvest Hands Food Bank Distribution Center had its grand opening Saturday at its new location, 122 Edward St.

The nonprofit organization now has triple the storage space with more than 1,000 square feet available to process donated food for families and agencies in 14 counties and municipalities.

“We are delighted to bring this much-needed resource to Southwest Ontario and are honored by the support we have received to make this a reality,” said CEO Jim Collins.

With the increased food distribution and volunteer capacity, Harvest Hands will now be able to provide an additional one million meals a year, according to Collins.

“Harvest Hands (improves) access to fresh food like dairy and vegetables, and helps our partner agencies get fresh food and other essentials to their customers more efficiently,” he added.

Funded entirely by donations and led by volunteers, Harvest Hands provides food to feed more than 24,000 families each year.
