The Center de services scolaire des Rives-du-Saguenay submitted a project valued at $1.5 million to the Ministry of Education shortly before the holidays.

He has the support of the city of Saguenay.

“We are awaiting a response. I can’t say anything, but I hope it will be positive,” confirmed the municipal councilor for the sector elected last October, Serge Gaudreault.

The lamentable state of the current Charles-Gravel high school athletics track has been denounced for years by residents of the area.

The infrastructures have not been the subject of work since their installation in 1971.

Mr. Gaudreault had undertaken to work on the file during the last municipal elections.

He succeeded in convincing the executive committee of the city of Saguenay to support the project.

The city has agreed to enter into a facility-sharing agreement, in exchange for an investment of $250,000.

The new eight-lane athletics track would also allow large-scale sporting events to be held.

The Center de services scolaire des Rives-du-Saguenay intends to proceed with the work in 2023 if it obtains a positive response from the Ministry of Education on its grant application.
