Robberies, rape and extortion on the rise in the country

Regarding 2020, six of 11 crimes under the common jurisdiction were triggered in Mexico between January and last October.

According to the security report presented by Rosa Icela Rodríguez, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the crime of robbery in individual public transport (taxis) increased 29.2%; So far this year, 2,379 crimes of the type have been committed, while in the same period last year the figure was 1,841.

Simple and matched violation increased 28.2%; In the first 10 months of the current year, 17,784 violations were registered, against 13,867 last year, in the same period.

There were 12,960 thefts in individual transport so far in 2021, while last year 11,661 were reported; the increase was 11.1 percent.

The increase in theft in collective public transport was 10.5%; This year the crime figure was 10,561 and in 2020 it was 9,554.

Extortion increased 10.1%; Of 7,056 extortions reported last year, this 2021 amounted to 7,766.

Theft from pedestrians in spaces open to the public and on public roads increased 8% since from January to October last 60,668 crimes of the type were registered against 56,154 committed in the first ten months of 2020.

“Here is the criminal incidence of the common jurisdiction of January-October 2021 with respect to the same period of the previous year, where we see the decrease in this crime, except in robbery in collective public transport, it also increased in robbery to passerby, robbery to transport individual and extortion and rape.
