Repechages for the Qatar World Cup will be played as a single match and in a neutral venue

The intercontinental playoffs to qualify for the Qatar World Cup next year will be played with one-off matches instead of the usual round-trip format with home and away matches, said the FIFA this Friday.

The playoffs include the best placed teams that have not qualified directly in the Africa, Asia, South America and Concacaf (North America, Central America and the Caribbean) regions.

Four teams will compete for two places in the World Cup to be held in November 2022 in Qatar.

The playoffs were originally scheduled to be defined in two games in March 2022, but were rescheduled for June due to the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic on the qualifying calendar.

The matches will be played in a neutral venue that has not yet been determined by the world governing body for soccer.

The draw for the matches will take place next Friday, after the draw for the qualifying playoffs in Europe.
