The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and its partners operated a mass vaccination clinic at the Leamington Recreation Center from March until its closure in August, when demand for second doses declined across the region. With tens of thousands of local residents now eligible for booster shots, the health unit has chosen to reopen the clinic, with plans to open another mass vaccination site in West Windsor.

The Devonshire Mall mass vaccination clinic in Windsor, where thousands of people receive COVID injections daily, remains operational.

“Health workers throughout the region are stepping up their efforts and working twice as hard during the holiday season to get vaccines in as many arms as possible in response to the highly communicable omicron variant,” said Warden Gary McNamara. “Please help our health care heroes help you by getting vaccinated, receiving your booster as soon as you are eligible, and helping to ensure that older friends or family members get their booster as well.”

A series of temporary foreign worker vaccination clinics are also being planned in Windsor and Essex County.

In addition to mass vaccination clinics, COVID injections are available at participating pharmacies and primary care provider offices, as well as pop-up vaccination clinics. For more information on where to get a first, second, or third COVID-19 vaccine, visit wevax.ca .

Anyone 18 years of age or older who received a second dose at least three months ago is eligible for a booster shot.
