Remains found in a house fire in Malahide township: OPP – London | The Canadian News

Elgin County, Ontario Provincial Police said the remains of a person were found in a house that caught fire in Malahide Township earlier this week.

On December 20, 2021 around 1:26 a.m., OPP and the Malahide Fire Department responded to a fire at a residential home on the Nova Scotia Line in Malahide Township.

Police say the house was completely submerged, but one person was able to escape.

Following an investigation to see if there were other people in the home, police say the remains of one person were found.

A post-mortem examination is currently underway to confirm the identity of the deceased.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Investigators from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office remain at the scene.
