Reader’s Letter: More Youth-Friendly Community Venues Needed

Article content

I repeat the same thing every day.

I wake up, I get ready, I go to school, I work, I eat, I do my homework and sometimes I go to the mall.

There seems to be very little else in this community that I can do. I want to have fun, I want to enjoy my adolescence and create memories and stories that I can tell my future children.

But when I go out with my friends, we struggle to find things that we can do in this community.

People always say that “teens use their phones too much,” but have they stopped to think why?

They push us towards technology for everything, for school, communication and for when we are bored. I feel like there isn’t enough for us, so we spend our free time on our technology. It has become a habit, honestly an addiction, and for many comforting.

Neither of which is healthy.

My mom tells me all the time about how she and her friends used to go skating and how those were some of the best times of her life. Why can’t we have something in our community that everyone can do to have fun and be active with friends?

It would be good for our physical and mental health.

Why might the city consider spending $ 32.5 million on a riverfront roof, but not for our youth?

Something like an indoor skating rink would benefit many people in our community.

Young people need something that we can do and enjoy. Give us something to create memories, have fun and stay healthy.
