Reader letter: Friend’s emergency room wait was unacceptable

Article content

A friend of mine who is 84 years-old had to go to the emergency room due to an infection following a surgery he had at the hospital.

I have tried to contact his doctor, but no answers. The walk-in clinic told him he had to go to the emergency hospital to get treatment.

I have arrived at the emergency room at around 10 am and registered. He was told to wait.

He finally at 11 pm was moved into a room to wait for the doctor which took another three hours. I have made it home around 2:30 am

When he asked the nurse for a glass of water while in an emergency he was told they can’t give him water unless the doctor authorizes it. My friend is diabetic and they knew this, but still no food or water for him.

When I learned of all this it was very upsetting to me.

Does anybody care how bad things are at the hospital? Where are all the elected politicians that suppose to represent the people?

So far I have not seen any pamphlet for the next provincial election where a candidate makes health care their concern.

Why should anyone have to wait 16 hours in an emergency just to see a doctor?

Keep in mind it could be you or your loved one next.
