The government announced this week that top public servants, including RCMP members and reservists, must be vaccinated or face suspension without pay starting November 15.

Brian Sauve, president of the National Police Federation, says that today the union expected a more “meaningful and authentic” dialogue with the government on policy.

He says the federation, which represents some 20,000 members, is disappointed by the government’s “commitment by notice” approach to the policy announcement.

RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki is publicly promoting COVID-19 vaccination and said in a tweet Thursday that it could save lives.

He thanked Dr. Peter Clifford, the RCMP’s chief medical advisor, for a video message telling members that getting the COVID-19 vaccine is critical to staying safe from serious and possibly fatal illnesses.
