The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has a warrant for the arrest of a northern Alberta man wanted for first degree murder.

On December 18, Lac La Biche RCMP found a dead man inside an apartment complex at 10310 102 Avenue.

The man was later identified as Landy Shirt, 31, who was the subject of a missing persons case on Dec. 8.

At the time, police said the family reported Shirt missing as of December 3 and that he had been seen in the Goodfish Lake Metis settlement area along with the village of Lac La Biche after December 6.

On Tuesday, the RCMP said Lorne Cardinal of Lac La Biche, 25, is wanted for first-degree murder in connection with Shirt’s death.

The Mounted urge caution as Cardinal is considered armed and dangerous. Police say stay away from Cardinal and contact RCMP at 780-404-2500 if you know the man’s whereabouts. You can also remain anonymous using Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.

Lac La Biche is 213.5 km northeast of Edmonton.
