RCMP investigates human remains found in Oakville, Man.

The RCMP is investigating after human remains were found at a residence in Oakville, Man.

RCMP in Portage la Prairie, Man., Responded to a call about the wreckage at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday. The remains were found in a community home, located 42 miles west of Winnipeg.

Mounties attended the scene and confirmed that the remains are not historical in nature and secured the scene. The RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating and the Forensic Identification Unit is assisting the scene.

Police tape surrounds the home, which is located on the community’s Second Avenue, and there is an RCMP cruise ship at the scene.

CTV News spoke with Audrey McCormick, a neighbor, who said the home had been vacant for several years and was recently bought by a new owner.

“It was later that I found out that the owner had tried to get into the truck, the new owner, and couldn’t get in,” McCormick said. “And that’s when he found remains and immediately contacted the police.”

RCMP said the investigation is in its early stages and more information will be released when it becomes available.
