In a Tuesday news release, Mounties said RCMP received a complaint Saturday about a suspicious person outside a rural residence in Ponoka County, about 100 km south of Edmonton.

Officers arrived at the scene to find a man hiding in a nearby vehicle, arrested him and searched the vehicle, RCMP said. The search yielded a 12-gauge shotgun, radio jammer, stolen license plate, Canadian currency, items consistent with drug trafficking and 28 grams of suspected methamphetamine, RCMP said.

Ponoka RCMP Sgt. Erin St-Cyr credited the seizure to collaboration with community members in an effort to cut crime.

“This reported suspicious activity is yet another excellent example of our police officers and the members of the communities we serve working together towards the common goal of crime reduction in our area,” he said.

RCMP have charged Calgary resident Alec John Mclennan, 26, with 20 offenses related to drug trafficking and failing to comply with release conditions as well as possession of stolen property and weapons.

Mclennan was remanded in custody and has a court appearance scheduled for next Tuesday in Wetaskiwin provincial court.
