Quintana Roo exceeds pre-pandemic levels during Holy Week


Cancun, QR. Preliminary data show that in Quintana Roo the holiday season of Holy Week and Easter (from April 9 to 24) registered an influx of more than 1.2 million visitors, with an occupancy of 81.2% and an economic benefit of more than 992 million of dollars.

In addition, the airport movement in Cancun exceeded 11% that registered in 2019, before the pandemic.

According to the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, the state has 1,269 lodging centers, equivalent to 123,079 hotel rooms, since it has great air connectivity thanks to the connection with more than 112 cities in the world and for the diversified offer in the destinations of the Mexican Caribbean.

The destination with the highest influx was Riviera Maya with 564,135 tourists, 75% more than in 2021. Cancun followed with 356,818 (annual increase of 14 percent).

Regarding the influx of tourists from the south of the state, Chetumal presented an increase of 43%, equivalent to 45,313; Bacalar with more than 40%, that is, 15,775 and Mahahual, with 8,431 tourists.

The destinations of the Maya zone, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and José María Morelos exceeded more than 90% compared to 2021.

The official commented that during Holy Week the destinations of the Mexican Caribbean had an influx of more than 1.2 million tourists, 3% more than in 2019.

“One of the great successes in Quintana Roo was considering tourism an essential activity, for this reason, since the beginning of the pandemic, it has worked hand in hand with the sector, to continue being the favorite destination in Latin America,” he explained.

“These results are a reflection of the fact that more and more companies continue to bet on the Mexican Caribbean, thanks to the confidence that the destination offers and that is complemented by its incomparable natural wealth, its strategic location and the great connectivity with the main tourist issuing markets”, he deepened.
