Quintana Roo exceeded 10 million visitors in 14 months

In a count of the state’s tourism recovery, the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ) announced that between June 2020 and August 2021, 10.5 million tourists have been captured and the air connection with the United States has been reestablished. , Europe and Central and South America.

This was possible thanks to the declaration in favor of tourism as an essential activity in March 2020 and also to the health and sanitary prevention protocols implemented by the Ministry of Tourism (Sedetur) that contributed to making the Mexican Caribbean one of the first destinations. in the world together with Saudi Arabia, Barcelona, ​​Portugal and Seville in obtaining the safety and hygiene seal of the World Council.

In addition, the state Epidemiological Traffic Light –indicator of the reopening phases and the allowed capacity for each item– and the “El Paraíso Can Esperar” and “Caribe Mexicano: Lo Mejor de Dos Mundos” campaigns were implemented, carried out by the CPTQ during the months of April and May of this year.

Flota Ocampo explained that the Mexican Caribbean and its 12 destinations (Bacalar, Cancun, Costa Mujeres, Chetumal, Holbox, Isla Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Mahahual, Maya Ka’an, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos and Tulum) have 116, 386 rooms and just over 900 kilometers of coastline, which maintain a responsible, gradual and orderly tourist recovery.

Between January and December, Sedetur’s forecast is that Cancun will reach 10 million tourists, still 2.6 million below the 12.6 million attracted in 2019, but the figure represents a degree of recovery that few destinations in the world can boast “, assured.
