Querétaro plans to install a new power substation

Querétaro, Qro. The construction of a new substation supplying electric power is the bet of the state administration and it will be one of the projects developed by the State Energy Agency.

The project is still under management and analysis to pay for an initiative of this type, as it could involve an investment of more than 200 million dollars, explained the governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri González.

The objective, he stated, will be to give energy viability to investment projects that are about to arrive in the state and that will demand constant consumption.

One of the great challenges we have to Queretaro is that although a lot of energy passes through here, we do not have enough substations to be able to lower them, so the State Energy Agency is going to take charge of looking for resources to be able to lower the energy and be able to make viable the companies that come. At least one that makes it possible to give viability to all the companies that are yet to come, ”said Kuri.

The metropolitan municipality The Marquis It is one of the locations being studied, because it is an area of high energy demand.

“We are looking at places, but I think that the part of El Marqués is very important, where we are in great demand. (The investment) is very large. It can be from 200 million dollars to a little more (…) We are seeing where the resources can come from, ”he said.

The data center facilities, he said, are important energy consumers, therefore one of the objectives is to supply the supply requirements of this type of investment.

“It depends on the megawatts that are needed, but the idea is to give viability to all the companies that arrive, a great demand we have is the data center companies, they demand a large amount of megawatts and those we will have to go out, no is that they need them from one day to the next, but little by little they are taking it out and we are going to provide the service. That we do not stop receiving investment due to lack of energy ”, he commented.

Kuri González recalled that weeks ago he had a meeting with the head of the Federal electricity commission (CFE), Manuel Bartlett Díaz, to study alternatives that guarantee the electricity supply.

It was in December 2019 when the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, visited the CFE headquarters in El Sauz, Pedro Escobedo, where he reported that the construction of a new combined cycle plant in the state would imply a cost of 800 million dollars and would double the generation capacity that currently exists in the Pedro Escobedo plant.

At that time, the project for the new plant was not ruled out, but its completion was not confirmed either, given the high cost of executing it.
