ST. JOHN’S — Newfoundland and Labrador provincial police say a 40-year-old Quebec man was arrested after being removed from an Air Canada plane that was diverted due to an incident on board.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said it was informed of the incident on Air Canada Flight 870 from Montreal to Paris Monday morning. Police boarded the Boeing 777-300ER around 1:50 am and arrested the passenger, who was being detained in his seat by the flight crew.

The RNC said the Quebecer was charged with disturbing the peace and endangering the safety or security of an aircraft in flight, under the Aeronautics Act.

The plane continued its trip two hours after it landed in St. John’s, and arrived in Paris 3½ hours late.
