Quebec has adopted a new policy aimed at reducing the number of suicides in the province by 10 per cent by 2026.

Such a reduction would see the annual number of suicides drop to below 1,000.

The government will spend $65 million to achieve that goal, Health Minister Christian Dubé said Friday.

The strategy, which numerous organizations have been calling for, aims to improve the public’s psychological well-being and prevent suicidal thoughts.
