Quebec Minister of Health and Social Services Christian Dubé unveiled a “vaccine contest” on Friday to increase the COVID-19 vaccination rate in all age groups and encourage as many people as possible to get ahead of their second dose.
The total value of the prizes will be $ 2 million, including a grand draw of $ 1 million, reserved for double vaccinated.
He announced it in the morning during a press conference at the head office of Loto-Québec, which is working with the government on this project. He was accompanied by the Minister of Finance and Minister of Economy and Innovation, Eric Girard, as well as the director of the vaccination campaign, Daniel Paré.
During the administration of his second dose of vaccine, last June, the Premier of Quebec, Francois Legault, had mentioned the possibility of creating “lotteries or rewards of all kinds” to encourage the population to go and get immunized against COVID-19.
« Christian [Dubé] working on it. When he’s ready, he’ll tell you, ”he said. Loto-Quebec had also confirmed to be “at a first stage of discussions” on this subject, according to its spokesperson Renaud Dugas.
Even if a majority of 83% of the population has received adequate vaccine protection, according to the latest figures from the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec, young people between 18 and 29 years old are the most lagging behind, with only 69% having received a first dose.
