The two shows that were to serve as a test for the realization of events in times of pandemic have been canceled.
The Minister of Tourism, Caroline Proulx, indicated in a press release that the decision not to go ahead with the test scheduled for the fall had been taken because of the recent evolution of the epidemiological situation in Quebec.
The Minister had confirmed, on July 19, the intention of the Ministry of Tourism to conduct a test event in the form of two shows, one outside and one indoors.
These shows aimed to obtain convincing data to support the full and safe resumption of festivals and events.
“However, in view of the current epidemiological situation and the apprehended rise in cases of COVID-19 associated with the Delta variant, it was deemed wiser to put an end to the test event project”, indicates the press release sent by Minister Proulx’s office.
The ministry therefore terminated the mandate given to Université Laval for the development of the research protocol. The two calls for tenders launched to select the service providers responsible for the organization of the shows are also canceled.
“We will continue to work with our festival and event promoters and public health to ensure a safe revival of event activity in Quebec,” Ms. Proulx said in the press release.
