Tyler Robson head shot

You are building a legacy. How it all started?

I grew up in Kelowna, BC and witnessed firsthand the success of cannabis in medical applications. I immediately saw great potential and knew I wanted to participate. To do it properly, he had to learn more about this world. It’s what prompted me to earn a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences, with a minor in Biology, from the University of Saskatchewan.

I was always a sports fan, soccer in particular. I was selected by the CFL for the BC Lions. Hard work, dedication, focus, commitment, communication, and agility are just some of the amazing things that sports have brought into my life. They shaped me and helped me see what I am capable of bringing to the world and how I can build a team to execute it. I think sport and science, as well as my early exposure to the cannabis industry, came together to help me co-found what is now Valens.

What drives you personally on a day-to-day basis?

I come from humble origins. My parents didn’t have much, but they were always there to support me. They provided me. They came to each and every one of my soccer games. I owe it to them and to myself to never miss an opportunity.

He has already accomplished a lot with Valens. What do you hope to achieve in the future?

In many circles, there is still a lingering negative stigma around cannabis. I want to transform it and challenge those negative beliefs. We are here to create products for those who need them. A global cannabis landslide is looming, and people don’t understand the scale of what is happening. It’s going to be huge, and to have this opportunity to be a challenger in space is incredible.

We have been meticulous in our approach. We have focused on sustainable growth and building our foundations and expertise before expanding. Valens planted its roots as a third-party extraction company. We build the most diverse and advanced extraction platform in Canada and work with the industry’s recognized licensed products to extract and test the best cannabis in the world. Our product manufacturing has now expanded to all categories of consumer packaged cannabis products and with recent M&A activities, Valens is now a leading licensed Canadian producer. Concentrated and precise growth is the name of the game. We have cannabis experts surrounded by a world-class leadership team that is taking us to new heights. Our goal is to be one of the most respected cannabis brands in the end, and our team is brilliant. They will take us there.

Valens Company Overview

What does it mean to you to be a challenger?

Hunger, hard work, determination, these are fundamental attitudes that get you places. You can always teach someone a skill set, but you can’t teach them attitude. Our team has this unrelenting passion for pushing the boundaries of what others do. As we do that, we inspire others to look at the industry from a different perspective, to see its future potential.

That’s what Valens stands for. When people see the logo, they see a brand that challenges the way things are and challenges perceptions. I see some of the greatest innovators in our life, and they broke the roof in a similar way. We are here, pushing to go beyond the limits. Not just for us. For everyone around us.

What makes Valens unique in the cannabis space?

The special thing about Valens is that we are real. We are people dedicated to cannabis and we put the best products of their kind on the shelf. To get to this level, you need a few key ingredients to drive your success: focus, fundamentals, innovation, resilience. You need to love what you do, but most of all, you need a lot of amazing, like-minded people.

They have always seen us as the underdog. It’s part of what drives us to want to get bigger, push the industry to be bolder, and get people involved. We have this mindset that nothing will stop us and we see the future in a way that no one else sees. In the cannabis space, that gives us this great lens to see what others are doing right and wrong. That gives us a competitive advantage.

You built yourself from scratch. What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?

If you can stay curious and motivated, if you can break preconceptions, you can really change the game, change the industry for the better, and help people in a positive way. I have always believed it, in my personal life and in my work life. And if along the way you can create a community and support the people around you, then you know that you are doing something right.

How important is this notion of community to you?

The power of the people in your life is undeniable. You have to surround yourself with those who share your vision and who are excited to work together to create change. My family, my colleagues who inspire, challenge and collaborate with me are my circle of inspiration. They make Valens what he is.
