Puebla, Pue. The Magic Towns will be Puebla’s star products for next year, with the aim of attracting more national tourism, in addition to attracting the interest of foreign hoteliers to invest in them, said the state Secretary of Tourism, Martha Ornelas Guerrero.
In an interview with The Economist, stressed that the influx of visitors is recovering, anticipating reaching 100% occupancy during the remainder of the year, especially in the 10 Magic Towns.
Tetela de Ocampo was the last municipality to achieve the designation of Pueblo Mágico in November 2020, joining Cuetzalan del Progreso, Pahuatlán, Zacatlán de las Manzanas, Chignahuapan, Xicotepec de Juárez, San Pedro and San Andrés Cholula, Tlatlauquitepec, Huauchinango and Atlixco , these last two have been recognized since 2015
The Secretary of Tourism said that, although no town runs the risk of losing its name, there were previous municipal authorities who did not do the same to take care of them, so the councilors who entered just on October 15 have urged to invest in infrastructure and, with it, to recover in urban image.
He indicated that for the state government the Magic Towns will be the product with which they will promote Puebla in 2022, in order to help economic recovery.
“There will be a strategy and with a budget to generate this attraction with visitors (…) the federal Ministry of Tourism has trained the service providers of these localities,” he deepened
Ornelas Guerrero explained that the actions will be focused on recovering the national market, increasing internal activity and then foreign visitors, who at this time are few in all tourism sectors.
Hoteliers
Regarding investments, he said that hotel chains are interested in injecting capital into the Magic Towns and building boutique hotels, but above all, the traditions in the localities must be cared for and preserved, therefore a study should be carried out when there is a project in concrete.
He indicated that they should also wait to know the vision of the councilors of those localities, in which they are also working to strengthen the productive chains with training.
“We will talk with the new municipal governments of the Magical Towns to know their vision, but they have to take care of the badge,” he deepened.
He commented that there are no pending applications to search for more denominations and neither has the Federal Sectur issued any summons.
