The agreement reached in Brussels by Spain and Portugal to limit the price of gas used to generate electricity has been considered by the Government as good news for consumers (those that have the regulated rate), but it is necessary to wait for the May electricity bill to assess to what extent the hopes are reflected in a substantial lowering of the service. Based on what was achieved on paper and its application over 12 months, the megawatt hour will be set at 40 euros in the wholesale market at the beginning of the term of the agreement, which will reach 50 euros on average after one year. But you can’t ignore some unknowns about the functioning of the market and take for granted that the electricity bill will be up to 54% lower than the current one, as declared by Minister Teresa Ribera, who has negotiated in Brussels the price ceiling of the gas that affects the electricity.
