Public Health is recruiting hundreds of investigators to trace contacts of cases

To deal with the rise in COVID-19 cases, the Montreal Regional Public Health Department will launch a campaign to recruit between 200 and 400 professionals dedicated to epidemiological investigations. In Laval and Montérégie, Public Health is also hiring.

“The investigations are very long and complex,” said the spokesperson for the Montreal Regional Public Health Department, Jean-Nicolas Aubé. They take twice as long as before. “

Since deconfinement, citizens have increased their contacts, he explains. Case management in schools is more complicated, as the bubble classes have been lifted. And that’s without counting the increase in outbreaks in child care. Toddlers are not vaccinated and do not wear a mask.

Some 250 employees work every day to carry out investigations into cases and their contacts at the Montreal Regional Public Health Directorate, indicates Jean-Nicolas Aubé. The organization has an additional pool of 500 to 600 workers if needed. However, she wants to hire 200 to 400 more professionals, in anticipation of the weeks to come.

Montreal Public Health is looking for administrative agents who will do data entry, as well as candidates with a profile of “scientific” academic training (eg physiotherapists, doctoral students in psychology and bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, etc. .) and able to assess cases and manage outbreaks.

In Laval and Montérégie too

Laval’s regional public health department also wants to replenish its team carrying out epidemiological surveys. Job postings are in progress.

For the moment, Laval’s public health employs nearly 50 investigators (full or part-time), indicates the spokesperson for the CISSS de Laval, Judith Goudreau. To this number are added 35 people in charge of outbreaks and about 20 individuals providing administrative support.

“We therefore have a team of around a hundred people, but we could double our number of investigators to carry out the growing number of epidemiological investigations,” said Judith Goudreau.

For its part, the Regional Directorate of Public Health of Montérégie is looking for about sixty people with “training in the field of health, management or helping relationship” in order to join the ranks of its team in epidemiological investigations. .

Currently, around 350 people are working on investigations, outbreak management, follow-up with contacts, case monitoring and administrative support, says the spokesperson for the Regional Directorate, Chantal Vallée.

People interested in positions in Montérégie must be available at least three days a week, every other weekend, for a minimum period of three months.
