Profeco alerts consumers to fly with Viva Aerobus because it charges for hand luggage

The Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco) imposed a precautionary measure consisting of the issuance of an alert on Viva Aerobus, airline with company name Aeroenlaces Nacionales, SA de CV

The Profeco alert informs consumers that Viva Aerobus rates do not include the right to fly with carry-on luggage:

“Profeco recommends to the consumer population, inform themselves and assess the risk of establishing commercial relationships with Viva Aerobus, since it markets flights with rates that do not include the right to transport hand luggage and establishes additional charges for said luggage, which is considered it constitutes a practice that harms the interests and rights of consumers and therefore affects the economy of a group of consumers ”.

The Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office reminded consumers that it has the power to promote and protect the rights of users. This includes that it could apply the necessary measures to promote equity and legal certainty in relations between suppliers and consumers, in this case, between the airline and its travelers.
