The president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Arturo Zaldivar, assured this Tuesday that most of the people who are subject to unofficial pretrial detention sound of scarce resources.
Through his Twitter account, Zaldívar pointed out that the informal preventive detention is “a sentence without a sentence that, as a general rule, punishes the poverty”.
He assured that progress must be made towards a system that establishes preventive detention as exceptional.
Most of the people in unofficial pre-trial detention are low-income. It is a sentence without a sentence that, as a general rule, punishes poverty. We must move towards a system that establishes preventive detention as exceptional. #SCJN
