Presidential 2022: Edouard Philippe announces that he will support Emmanuel Macron

“My support will be complete for the President of the Republic. ” The mayor of Le Havre and former prime minister Edouard Philippe announced on Sunday September 12 that he would be behind Emmanuel Macron for the presidential election of 2022.

“I think, I hope, that he will be a candidate”, declared Mr. Philippe in the program “7 à 8” on the television channel TF1, detailing the “Three reasons” which motivate its decision.

“The first is basically loyalty and consistency. (…) For three years, I was its prime minister. I struggled to try to implement the commitments he had made to the French ”, said the former tenant of Matignon.

Mr. Philippe then explained, that as Prime Minister he had seen how much the mandate of President of the Republic was “Incredibly difficult”. “And, I think Emmanuel Macron is made of a metal which I do not see much of the trace in all those who are candidates for the presidential election today”, he asserted.

Finally, Mr. Philippe said he was convinced of the merits of the reforms carried out during the mandate of Emmanuel Macron. ” I think (…) that it is necessary to accentuate them, to take them up again in many respects, if we want to strengthen once again the power of our country ”, he further explained.
