In several Portuguese airports, several hundred flights were canceled this weekend, due to a strike by the porter’s employees Groundforce. They protest against delays in the payment of their wages, and denounce the situation “unsustainable instability“, which the company is experiencing, in the grip of serious financial difficulties against a backdrop of tensions between its main private shareholder and TAP, a Portuguese airline, which holds nearly half of the capital.
But during this 48-hour mobilization, tourists must wait to find a fallback solution, to Porto, Faro, or even in Lisbon. The latter’s airport is the most affected, with nearly 550 canceled flights.
A new epidemic wave
Portugal still faces a new peak of infections due to the delta variant of COVID-19. On Saturday, health authorities reported more than 3,600 cases.
