“Pop vote!”: Vote for Choinière

In order to learn more about Canadian federal politics, Frédéric Choinière decided to take the leap himself and become a candidate. The one who notably animated Bi *. Bilingualism, the great canadian utopia ? (HERE TV) and Greens strike back (Télé-Québec) slipped into the shoes of an elected official in order to better understand the workings of the political institution.

Going from door to door to collect signatures until the choice of his image, without forgetting the financing of his campaign, Frédéric Choinière truly accomplished several stages during the filming of Vote pop ! In particular, he called on specialists such as the former adviser to NDP leader Jack Layton, Karl Bélanger, to more easily understand the path to take to become a politician. That said, this candidacy is only a playful pretext hiding the real will of the documentary, unattractive at first glance for many citizens: to question and learn about the federal political system, the functioning of the Chamber of Municipalities or the voting system.

Frédéric Choinière takes the trouble to dissect the concepts that could win the viewer. Many pictorial diagrams accompany his statements, which simplifies the documentary. Although the subject may seem rather difficult to illustrate, the production has resorted to archives as well as very literal videos of the talk of the host, thus making the work more than digestible, thus making it an educational program and could not be more relevant in an election campaign.
