An autopsy has confirmed that the man found dead after a fire broke out at an oil leasing site in Sturgeon County last month was the victim of a homicide, the Edmonton Police Service said Wednesday.
“The cause of death is being withheld for investigation purposes,” police said in a press release, noting that the autopsy took place on November 24.
On Monday, November 22, officers from the Morinville RCMP detachment found human remains at the site of a fire in the area of Township Road 580 between Highways 243 and 244. Homicide detectives say the remains were later determined. which were Cody Sinclair’s. , 30, who was reported missing on November 18.
“Sinclair was reportedly last seen on Monday, November 8, 2021, after being discharged from the Royal Alexandra Hospital (in Edmonton) at approximately 10:30 pm,” police said last month. “Investigators later learned that he was also seen in the Prince Charles neighborhood on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. Police have no further evidence of life as of this date.”
Sinclair’s disappearance was deemed out of place, and family, friends and the police had raised concerns for his safety.
While the EPS said its detectives have been working closely on the case with the Alberta RCMP felony unit, the EPS homicide section is now leading the investigation.
Police have not said whether they have a suspect or suspects in connection with Sinclair’s death.
