Poblano shopping centers will resume investments in 2022

Puebla, Pue. Although the economic reactivation is underway, it will be until 2022 when investment plans focused on remodeling or expanding shopping centers can be resumed to make them more attractive with foreign tourism, explained the director of the Association of Shopping Centers of Puebla (Acecop) , Andrés De La Luz Espinoza.

He trusted that there will be a better outlook regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, that infections will drop considerably, although with the risk of a new wave occurring in early January.

However, the administrations of the complexes consider it viable to resume the plans due to the growth of tourism to these spaces, which requires improvements.

He referred that the average investment in general until 2019 was not May 300 million pesos for the affiliated shopping centers, which in total comprise 5,500 stores. In 2020, the works of some complexes were considered, but all plans were stopped with the pandemic

“In the sector they know that they must have a constant renewal so as not to lose attractiveness among visitors, especially in the foreign market, which represents 60% of visits, which in the month had been having almost 6 million before the pandemic”, deepened.

Presence

De La Luz Espinoza explained that Puebla has a position in terms of shopping centers nationwide, which is why it should be invested as they do elsewhere, since they not only give presence to a city, but also contribute to the economic spillover, especially in El Buen Fin, since they generate 60% of total sales.

He said that a year before the pandemic, three shopping centers were completed, but in 2022 there are no announcements of new projects, which would help strengthen the activity of the sector, insisting that they are tourist spaces because they fall within the itinerary of visitors who they come from the center and south of the country.

However, he explained that Acecop is also in a constant campaign to promote the offer of complexes outside of Angelópolis, since this allows the generation of jobs in all areas.

He recalled that 2,000 of 3,500 jobs lost due to the health contingency have been recovered, with the hope of achieving the rest in the remainder of this month and early December.
