Plans to Turn Okanagan Lake’s Last Private Camp into a Resort Take Shape | The Canadian News

The last private camp on Okanagan Lake has been sold and plans are underway to convert the four-acre parcel of land into a luxury resort.

A company called Porchlight Development is launching a 49-unit residential and tourism project to the city that includes six luxury beachside bungalows for the sprawling property that makes up Todd’s RV & Campground.

“The shape of the buildings and bungalows reflects and reinforces the quality and drama of the surrounding landscape and the lakeside, resulting in three buildings with European-style tiered floor levels on a hill that form large terraces on each building and for each individual suite and six one-level bungalows by the lake, ”reads the promotional material for the development.

To convert the camp into a tourist center, an application to change the area of the site to the tourist commercial zone C5 from the camp C6 and the independent residential R1 is located before the city.

This change will maintain the tourist uses of the site, but will update the area to allow for the complex’s structures.

The Todd family owned the Okanagan Lake Campground for 66 years before it changed hands.

It welcomed caravans and tents from around the world to Peachland and while it wasn’t all that unique when it started recently, it became the last privately owned destination RV park on Okanagan Lake.

The Todd family had tried to involve both the municipality and the regional district in a plan to take over the site, which would allow the community to keep more lakefront properties within their boundaries. Neither of them took up the idea and the property was sold to a developer.

Porchlight will hold a virtual town hall meeting on January 7 to provide more information on the proposed rezoning and the proposed OCP amendment.

The public consultation meeting will be held on Friday, January 7, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm via Zoom.
