Peso closes with marginal advance in the day before Christmas

The Mexican peso was marginally appreciated against the American dollar this Friday. The local currency extended its streak of advances to three and ended a positive week, in a market with reduced volume by the end of the year.

The exchange rate concluded operations at 20.6157 units against a figure of 20.6301 units yesterday, with records of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico). This meant an appreciation of 1.44 cent or 0.07 percent for the peso.

The cross traded in a range between a maximum of 20.6609 units and a minimum of 20.5790 units. Meanwhile, the Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the greenback with a basket of six currencies, fell a marginal -0.01% to 96.06 points.

The markets of Mexico had a day of slight movements this Friday, with a low volume operated by the Christmas festivities. Investors are attentive to information from the Covid-19 Omicron variant.

Despite being highly infectious, studies have shown that the strain is less severe than the delta variant, fueling optimism about the economic consequences of the new restrictions.

During the week, against a close of 20.7862 units last Friday, the peso registered a cumulative advance of 17.05 cents or 0.82 percent.
