The BC Conservation Officials Service says the attack occurred Wednesday morning near the town of Granisle along Lake Babine, about 100 kilometers north of Lake Burns.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“At this time, more details about the victim’s condition are unknown,” the service said in a statement.

The BC Emergency Health Service says paramedics responded to the attack around 7:33 a.m. on Mill Bay Road near Granisle after receiving a 911 call.

“Paramedics met the patient and transferred him to a local hospital,” said a BCEHS spokesman. “The patient, serious due to stable condition, was later transported by ground ambulance to a higher level of care.”

Meanwhile, the conservation officer service has deployed its predator strike team to the area to locate the bear.

A new update is expected later today.
