PepsiCo Announces Global Goal for Food Safety

PepsiCo announced a new goal of contributing to the food security of 50 million people around the world by 2030, through the expansion of its Food for Good program. This effort is in line with pep + (PepsiCo Positivo), the company’s end-to-end strategic transformation, which places sustainability at the center of its operation.

With this in mind, in the 2020-2022 period, the PepsiCo Global Foundation will invest in Mexico approximately 110 million pesos in food security programs, around 30 million in economic reactivation schemes and more than four million in water access programs. That is, a total social investment of around 150 million pesos during said period. In the last five years, the actions of Fundación PepsiCo Global and Fundación PepsiCo México have benefited more than 130 thousand people from highly marginalized communities in the country.

To achieve this Zero Hunger goal and drive a sustainable future, PepsiCo will leverage its global reach to partner with local organizations in the fight against child malnutrition. Likewise, it will invest in both food security and water access programs and economic reactivation schemes to boost the well-being of the communities.

“Collaboration between society, government and the private sector is vital to building a more sustainable food system that meets the needs of billions of people. For this reason, our sustainability agenda is fully integrated into the business through our vision of pep +, which focuses on regenerative agriculture, sustainability in our value chain and offering better products for the planet and people, “said Roberto Martínez, president of PepsiCo Alimentos México.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), around 811 million people in the world suffer from hunger. The intention of Food for Good is precisely to promote equitable access to nutritious food, as well as to improve the productivity of crops and, with it, the income of small producers. At the same time, the company plans to expand its offer of nutritious and low-cost products, such as the 3 Minutos brand, and implement more initiatives to support at-risk communities with programs such as Quaker Qrece, a clinically proven model that already works. in Mexico and Guatemala, to overcome mild and moderate malnutrition in children between two and five years of age.

Other initiatives of the company in our country that add to the mission of Food for Good are Agrovita and Agriba Sustentable, programs aimed at implementing regenerative agricultural practices in the hands of small and medium producers in Chiapas, Tabasco, Guanajuato and Michoacán. Both programs are based on PepsiCo’s Positive Agriculture global vision, which seeks to improve the livelihoods of more than 250,000 people in its agricultural supply chain around the world.

For more than a decade, PepsiCo has made bold strides in building a more sustainable, regenerative and inclusive food system. As a company that uses more than 25 crops from almost 2.8 million hectares in 60 different countries, it recognizes its opportunity and responsibility in leveraging its vast reach to help build a system that preserves the planet and has a positive effect on people and communities. where he works.
