Pemex did not reach its oil production target by 2021

The oil production crude oil and condensates Mexican oil (Pemex) with partners was 1.757 million barrels per day in 2021, an increase of 2.9% compared to the previous year, thanks to the increase in the mining of light crude oil and condensates in the company’s southern region.

That production was even lower than the last cut the company’s management made on that indicator, which should have been 1.765 million barrels a day, according to the company’s chief executive. Octavio Romero Oropeza, in September last year.

It is added that only in the presentation of the Pemex strategy for the rest of the current administration carried out by the President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador During one of her press conferences, the head of Energy, Dew Nahle, committed an oil production of 1.944 million barrels per day in 2022, to 1.971 million in 2023 and to 2.063 million barrels per day in 2024.

And it is that in his oil statistics published this Thursday, Pemex He explained that the total production of crude oil with partners was 1.687 million barrels per day, with an increase of 1.6% compared to 2020, which was one of the worst years for the oil industry in its history.

But the production of condensed liquids, which are mainly naphtha and other pure fuels obtained by mining in the countries, averaged 70,000 barrels per day during the year, increasing by 52% from one year to the next. It should be noted that Pemex started announcing this production in 2018, after the earthly discoveries in the southern region of the country. In that year, condensate production was only 20,000 barrels per day, and has more than tripled since then.

Meanwhile, if the production of Pemex crude oil without partners plus condensates is taken into account, it reached 1.736 million barrels per day, which in the same way increased by 2.9% compared to 2020.

On the other hand, gas fluids associated with crude oil fields averaged 169,000 barrels per day throughout the year, a decrease of 18% compared to the previous year. It should be noted that these fluids are declining due to the priority given to the treatment of crude oil in the fields, and only in the current administration have they decreased by 22% due to the lack of investment for their repair.

Thus, when oil production, gas liquids and condensates were added, Pemex reported 1.925 million barrels per day extracted from its precipitates, a volume that implies a 0.68% increase over the previous year.

Less crude without partners

If crude oil production is observed only from the state-owned company, a volume of 1.666 million barrels per day was reached without partners or condensates, a volume that shows a reduction of 49% compared to the previous year.

According to crude oil type, the heavy type reported a withdrawal of 1,002 million barrels per day, with an annual decline of 3.6 percent.

Light-type crude oil increased by 13.43% compared to the previous year, after a production of 532 000 barrels per day was reported. Meanwhile, superlight crude oil also increased its production by 0.7%, contributing 153,000 barrels per day to national production.

By region, production in the see fields of the company was reduced by 0.66%, reaching 1.349 million barrels per day, a volume that still represents 80% of production with Pemex partners.

Meanwhile, Pemex’s northern region had a production of 72,000 barrels per day, which was 6.4% lower than the previous year. But production in the southern region was 265,000 barrels per day, 18% more than in 2020.
