Pedro Castillo will seek Peru to join OECD

The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, has undertaken to fulfill from the government all the necessary obligations for Peru to become a full member of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

“The relationship between Peru and the OECD is based on a relationship that benefits us mutually. Peru is a partner capable of contributing to the strengthening of the multilateral system to address global challenges. “I express the commitment of the Peruvian government to fulfill the obligations associated with the accession process leading to the incorporation of our country into the OECD,” the president said.

In his speech during the ceremony in which he signed the letter in which Peru accepted the invitation to begin the process of accession to the OECD, Pedro Castillo described this stage as a milestone and a great opportunity for the country.

“Peru’s endeavor to join the OECD is a permanent state policy based on the defense of democracy, the protection of individual freedoms, human rights, an open, inclusive and competitive economy and the rule of law.” The President also noted that there is a commitment to promote fiscal transparency, the fight against corruption and the preservation of the environment.

Countries could take four years to complete their OECD accession process, according to Grace Pérez-Navarro, Deputy Director of the OECD Center for Tax Policy and Administration. “(The invitation to Peru) is a very important decision of the OECD Council,” he said.
