Calgary Police have cordoned off an area of 17 Ave. SW to receive reports of a suspicious package in a Canadian mailbox.

The call came just before 10 a.m. M.

We will close 17th Avenue between 7th and 8th Street SW, as well as 8th Street between 16th and 18th Avenue SW, while we investigate a suspicious package in the area. The area has also been cordoned off to pedestrians as a precautionary measure. #yyc #yyctraffic

Police cordoned off 17 Ave. and 8 St. SW, as well as 8 St. between 16 Avenue SW and 18 Avenue SW while they continue to investigate.

It is not known what the suspicious package may be or how long the closures may be in effect.
