Police were called to Constable Garrett Styles Park in the Laurendale-Terrell Aves. area on Tuesday at about 8 am for reports of “anti-black and offensive graffiti” on equipment and in other areas of the greenspace.
“York Regional Police does not tolerate vandalism or hate crime in any form,” police said in a news release. “Those who victimize others based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, age, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, or mental or physical disability will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Const. Garrett Styles was standing beside a minivan during a routine traffic stop in East Gwillimbury on June 28, 2011, when the vehicle suddenly accelerated and dragged him about 300 meters before losing control and rolling on top of him.
